Police in East Kyoga Region have arrested a 35-year-old man accused of impersonating a senior army officer, defrauding members of the public and possessing suspected government stores.
The suspect, identified as Ochola Jonathan, alias Ekotu Peter and Onoria, was arrested by the Flying Squad following a complaint from Katakwi District.

According to a press statement issued on Friday by East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Ibrahim Saiga, the suspect allegedly posed as Colonel Ekotu Peter, purportedly attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
Police allege that he obtained 1.2 million shillings from the father of an inmate on remand at Katakwi Prison in a murder case, claiming he could facilitate his son’s release on bail through Soroti High Court.
A search at his residence in Majengo Cell, Oderai Majengo Ward, Soroti City West Division, reportedly led to the recovery of two pairs of UPDF uniforms, desert boots, a military bag, a cap and other army-related documents.

Police also reportedly recovered Parish Development Model documents bearing details of Abim District, as well as names of inmates.
Preliminary investigations further indicate that the suspect allegedly impersonated a State House Anti-Corruption Unit officer and contacted public officials, reportedly using threats and intimidation to solicit money. He is also accused of wearing UPDF uniform on several occasions.
The suspect is being held at Soroti City East Police Division as investigations continue.
