Katakwi, 12th October 2026 – The Member of Parliament for Ngariam County and Minister of State for Education and Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, has injected UGX 10 million into the completion of St. Stephen Parish Catholic Church in Katakwi District.

The contribution, in form of two bulls valued at UGX 10 million, was delivered yesterday, Sunday 12th October 2026, during a well-attended fundraising ceremony at the parish which was presided by the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Crispus Kiyonga.

The event brought together hundreds of Christians, political leaders, cultural leaders and well-wishers who turned up to support the completion of the house of God.

Hon. Ogwang was represented by Mr. Atubi Simon Peter together with the Chief Advisor to His Highness the Emorimor, Papa Ojaman Simon Peter. They handed over the contribution and conveyed the Minister’s message of love and solidarity to the faithful.

Addressing the congregation, the Parish Priest, Fr. Wayesu Olivier, delivered a powerful homily that touched many hearts.

In his homily, Fr. Wayesu said, “I call upon all leaders in Teso, political, cultural and religious, to work together in unity for the betterment of the Iteso people. Teso can only develop if its leaders put aside their differences and collaborate as one family with a shared vision for the community.”

He added, “I encourage Christians to remain firm, strong and unwavering in their faith. Even in difficult times, God remains faithful, and those who believe and trust in Him will never be abandoned. Be examples of love, forgiveness and hope in your communities.”

Fr. Wayesu further said, “Giving one-tenth of what God has blessed us with is not just a duty, but a profound way of thanking God and acknowledging Him as the source of all blessings. Through faithful tithing, Christians support the work of the Church and open themselves to more of God’s blessings.”

It should be noted that this is not the first time Hon. Ogwang has extended a helping hand to St. Stephen Parish. Just last month, the Minister made another substantial contribution towards the construction works of the same church, underscoring his consistent and genuine support for the Catholic Church and for development in Katakwi.

The Christians of St. Stephen Parish expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for Hon. Ogwang’s continued generosity, describing him as a true son of Teso who has never forgotten his roots and his faith.

The fundraising drive continues as the parish mobilizes resources to complete the church building.
