SOROTI CITY – In a decisive political shift that signals a new chapter for the sub-region, Teso leaders under the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have thrown their weight behind Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, launching his endorsement for the 2031 presidential race.

The endorsement was launched on Tuesday, 15th September 2026 at Soroti Hotel in Soroti City. The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament, District Chairpersons (LC5s), RDCs, opinion leaders, NRM Women’s League leaders and PLU Sub-County coordinators from across the Teso Sub Region.

In a hall filled with energy and hope, leaders from across Teso spoke with one voice – a voice of unity and continuity.

Minister Ogwang: PLU is About Sacrifice, Not Money

Speaking as Chief Guest, Hon. Peter Ogwang, the PLU Coordinator for Teso Sub Region, started by conveying apologies from Hon. Capt. Flt. George Michael Mukula, Hon. Herbert Edmund Ariko, Hon. Jaqueline Amongin and Hon. Emmanuel Okabe who were unable to attend due to other engagements.

Hon. Ogwang clarified that PLU is not a political party but a civic organization that believes in certain ideologies and principles, and subscribes to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

He tasked leaders to collect signatures endorsing Gen. Muhoozi within one month.

“If you are here and you are still thinking that this will not happen, you are behind. Don’t you have eyes to see or ears to hear?” Ogwang stated boldly.

He cautioned those willing to join PLU to do so with sacrifice and service for the country, not for money.

“PLU has no money as a civic organization. Whatever I have done here is my personal contribution because of the love NRM has invested in me. I have also invested in you. We sacrifice for Uganda. Who are you not to sacrifice for your country? The Gen. MK whom I know does not believe in money. He believes in sacrifice,” Ogwang said.

Leaders Rally Behind GenMuhoozi

The State Minister for Teso Affairs, Hon. Peter Kenneth Ongalo Obote, urged PLU leaders to reflect on past history and correct its mistakes. He asked leaders to let PLU grow into a mass movement.

Former Serere District Woman MP, Hon. Hellen Adoa, welcomed the endorsement, citing Gen. Muhoozi’s role in peace and security in Teso and his efforts in fighting corruption.

Former State Minister for Works and Transport, Hon. Musa Ecweru, urged leaders of Teso to bury their differences, unite and endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba 100%. He pledged his commitment to mobilize for PLU in the region and mobilized his fellow former Arrow Boys to support the cause.

Gen. Haji Abubaker JeJe Odongo, MP for Orungo County, rallied the people of Teso to support Gen. Muhoozi, whom he called his son.

“In our culture if you don’t bless your son you are considered a wizard and so I do not want to be a wizard, so today I have come to spit saliva to my son’s hand (Muhoozi) and really wish him the best in his personal life but also in his career in the life of this Country Uganda,” Odongo said.

LC5 Chairpersons Eng. Martin Onguruco of Serere District and Stephen Opolot of Kumi District also expressed their willingness to support Gen. Muhoozi as their next president and promised to start mobilizing locals for his 2031 candidature.

The event ended with Hon. JeJe Odongo and Hon. Hellen Adoa appending their signatures, symbolizing their endorsement of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for Presidency 2031 and beyond.
