Minister tells LC1 chairpersons to bury election differences and unite around wealth creation
By Our Reporter I NgariamFocus
NGARIAM, KATAKWI— The ballots have been counted, the campaigns are over, and now the real work begins.
That was the message from Ngariam County MP and Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports), Hon. Peter Ogwang, as he challenged grassroots leaders to trade political divisions for unity, security and household wealth creation.
Speaking to LC1 Chairpersons from across Ngariam County, Ogwang said elections should not become a permanent source of division, urging leaders to move beyond who supported whom and concentrate on serving the entire community.
“Our focus now is service delivery. That’s why I’m here meeting you in order to rally you to support government programs which benefit the community,” Ogwang said.

‘Your Village Is Your First Office’
Hon Ogwang placed security at the heart of the responsibilities of LC1 chairpersons, describing them as the first point of leadership in their communities because of their intimate knowledge of village affairs.
He said an LC1 chairperson is effectively the chairman of security at village level and therefore has a responsibility to know the people, understand emerging challenges and work closely with residents.
“No community will develop if leaders are not united and working together,” he said, urging local leaders to avoid operating in isolation.
No Room for ‘My People’ in Government Programs
The Minister also took aim at favouritism in the distribution of government-supported programmes, warning leaders against turning public initiatives into family or friends’ projects.
He recalled how some beneficiaries of a goats revolving project were allegedly selected along personal lines instead of community need.
“You should not be selfish. I remember I initiated a goats revolving project and asked LCs to identify beneficiaries, but some LCs selected their families, relatives, friends and in-laws. The same thing happened with PDM and restocking. You know yourselves,” he said._
Ogwang said his major focus in the new term is wealth creation across Ngariam, calling on grassroots leaders to mobilise residents to take advantage of programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.
For Ngariam’s grassroots leadership, the message was clear: the political season may have ended, but the season of service has just begun.
