Katakwi District Patriotic League of Uganda taskforce has stepped up its grassroots mobilization drive with a strategic engagement meeting bringing together local council leaders and party structures in Katakwi Sub County.
The meeting, held today at Olela Church of Uganda, convened LC1 and LC2 chairpersons, the National Resistance Movement structure and religious and opinion leaders from across Katakwi Sub County to galvanize support for the endorsement of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Museveni, the Chief of Defence Forces and Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.
The engagement focused on mass sensitization and civic education aimed at enlightening the community on the ideological orientation and significance of the MK movement, as well as rallying overwhelming support for his prospective presidential bid.
During the deliberations, the leaders unanimously blessed Gen Kainerugaba to succeed President Yoweri Museveni as the next President of the Republic of Uganda, underscoring their confidence in his leadership credentials and nationalistic posture.
Addressing the gathering, Simon Peter Ojaman, who represents elderly persons in Teso under the PLU banner, lauded the Chief of Defence Forces for his distinguished service in safeguarding national security and territorial integrity.
Ojaman specifically commended the CDF for his pivotal role in the decisive campaign against the Lord’s Resistance Army insurgency in the Teso sub-region, noting that his contribution restored peace and stability to the area.
He called upon the leaders to remain vigilant and stand by for a historic political transition, observing that the transition framework is steadily taking shape as Ugandans prepare to receive a new head of state after President Museveni.
Ojaman urged individuals and groups opposed to the General to exercise restraint, arguing that Gen Kainerugaba commands a formidable and expanding national support base evidenced by the massive turnouts at his mobilization rallies across the country.
He clarified that the Patriotic League of Uganda, while working in close collaboration with the ruling National Resistance Movement, remains an independent civic movement that upholds truth, patriotism and good governance. He cited the movement’s anti-corruption crusade under the expose the corrupt campaign as a testament to its commitment to accountability.
Ojaman was representing the Minister of State for Education and Sports in charge of Sports, Hon Peter Ogwang, who serves as the chief coordinator for PLU in Teso sub-region following his appointment by Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The taskforce issued a stern warning to a few elements reportedly attempting to undermine and demobilize the ongoing PLU registration exercise in Teso for selfish interests. The leaders emphasized that such acts of sabotage should be promptly reported to PLU coordinators at sub county and district levels or to the police for appropriate action.
According to field reports presented at the meeting, Katakwi District is performing highly in the ongoing nationwide endorsement exercise, currently standing at 70 percent and projecting a strong national outlook. Other districts in the region are also reported to have attained up to 65 percent coverage.
