The State Minister for Education and Sports(Sports) and Member of Parliament for Ngariam County, Hon. Peter Ogwang Lo’Ngariam, joined the residents of Apeuru Aodot in Okore Sub-county for a special memory prayer dedicated to the innocent people who were brutally killed by Karamojong warriors during the insurgency in Apeuru Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) Camp in 2003.
The solemn and emotional prayer gathering brought together survivors, families of the victims, elders, youth and leaders to remember, reflect and honour the lives that were lost in one of the darkest moments in the history of Ngariam and Teso at large.
Hon. Ogwang was joined by fellow leaders including the Member of Parliament for Kasilo County, Hon. Peter Paul Emaju, the MP for Pingire County in Serere District, Hon. Peter King Ojiit, the MP for Usuk County, Hon. Richard Ongorok, among other leaders.
In his moving address, Hon. Peter Ogwang Lo’Ngariam emphasized the need for healing, unity and forgiveness. He urged the residents of Ngariam to find it in their hearts to forgive the Karamojong, as the Bible teaches, even though they inflicted unbearable pain by killing their beloved ones.

They caused us deep pain and took away our loved ones, but as Christians and as a community that wants to move forward, we must embrace forgiveness. The Bible calls us to forgive. Let us forgive for peace to reign,” Ogwang said.
In a special gesture to honour the local heroes, Hon. Ogwang pledged to support the Arrow Boys veterans — the brave men who volunteered and risked their lives to defend Teso and repulse the Karamojong warriors during those difficult days.

He announced plans to establish a SACCO that will support the Arrow Boys leaders and their families to improve their livelihoods, noting that their sacrifice should never be forgotten.
The residents of Apeuru Aodot thanked Hon. Ogwang and the other leaders for standing with them in remembrance, saying the memorial prayer has brought comfort and hope that the fallen heroes will forever be remembered.
The day ended with prayers for lasting peace between Teso and Karamoja and for the souls of those who perished to continue resting in eternal peace.
May their souls rest in peace.
