PALAM, KATAKWI: The 2031 political conversation is gaining fresh ground in Katakwi, with local leaders from Ngariam County pledging to rally behind Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as he prepares for a presidential bid.
The commitment was made at St. Simon Akwaradada Catholic Church during a meeting bringing together LC1 Chairpersons, Councilors, LC3 leaders and other local leaders from across Ngariam County.

From The Frontline To The Leadership Question
Addressing the leaders, Ngariam County MP and Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports), Hon. Peter Ogwang, pointed to Gen. Muhoozi’s military record as part of the reasons he believes the General deserves support.
“Who among us here will accept to allow his son to go to the front line to fight rebels?” Ogwang asked.
He cited Gen. Muhoozi’s involvement in military operations against the LRA and Uganda’s regional security engagements, including operations in Somalia, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.
Minister Ogwang: “Gen Muhoozi Is A Lion”
Ogwang, who also coordinates PLU activities in the Teso subregion, told the gathering that the 2031 conversation should be viewed as a question of leadership and the country’s future.
“Gen. Muhoozi is a lion and if we want to guarantee our future we must rally behind him,” he said.
He also linked the General’s prospective leadership to the fight against corruption, arguing that a Muhoozi-led administration would take a tougher approach to the vice.
PLU Or NRM? Minister Ogwang Clears The Air
Ogwang further clarified the political vehicle through which he says Gen. Muhoozi will seek the presidency.
He said PLU is being used as a civic and mobilisation platform to rally support for the General, but insisted that the presidential bid will be pursued under the NRM.
“PLU is a civic organization which is now being used to rally Ugandans behind General Muhoozi. Don’t be misled by those saying Gen. Muhoozi will run under PLU. No, Gen. Muhoozi will run under NRM,” he said.
The Katakwi meeting comes as PLU continues its nationwide mobilisation and endorsement activities around Gen. Muhoozi’s 2031 presidential bid.
